About Mari
Hi there!
My name is Mariela and I am a Breast Cancer thriver & founder of Boobie Troopers. In 2013, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 23. I underwent a bilateral mastectomy, six months of chemotherapy, and was placed on tamoxifen. I then led a happy and healthy life with my husband and first child. However, in 2019, I began to notice shortness of breath, wheezing, and difficulty speaking. I went from doing hour long workouts, to barely completing the warmup run. I also couldn’t say more than one or two words before getting winded. I knew something was wrong. Once realizing it wasn’t getting better, I went to an Urgent Care. They performed a chest X-ray and told me that I had postpartum asthma. It still wasn’t getting better, so I decided to contact my Breast Oncologist. She ordered blood work and scheduled a PetScan. On September 11, 2019, I received the phone call that no one wants to get, Metastatic Breast Cancer to both the lungs and brain.
Boobie Troopers has been my way of turning my situation into a way of educating, supporting, and motivating others through their cancer diagnosis and beyond. I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by my amazing friends and family, which was my inspiration for creating Boobie Troopers. My goal was to create a space where others could feel the same support.
